Four Hands Glass
Jo studied fine art sculpture at Staffordshire University, graduating with a first class BAHons. On leaving college she worked for a model making company in Hertfordshire sculpting the original models for cartoon characters that were to be mass produced. After 3 years Jo left to combine teaching with a small part time glass etching business. Part time quickly became full time & Jo began a larger scale business operating from workshop premises in Watford where her grandfather & father used to run a shoe repair business for over 50 years. With her mother involved with bookkeeping & deliveries, it was a real family business.

Nine years later and with business booming, Jo's partner Adam came on board too, applying business skills from his corporate background whilst learning the etching processes. Together they formed ‘Four Hands’. Since 2006 the emphasis of Four Hands has changed somewhat from a craft show heavy schedule (42 in 2007) to concentrating efforts on commission work whilst maintaining a presence at what they consider to be some of the finest craft shows in the country.
Clare Pegden
In a world that feels increasingly complicated and tricky to navigate Clare uses photography as a way of grounding herself and slowing the rapid pace of life; at least for a little while.
Spending time outside and making a photograph that reflects that time is an absolute privilege and Clare is hugely appreciative that she is able to spend some of my time doing exactly that.
Tracey Ward
Tracey woke up one day in her 40th year absolutely convinced that she could sculpt. She had always drawn and painted but her only experience of sculpting was making a clay dolphin, at school, when she was 12 years old. She liked the end product but positively hated the feeling of clay. So, she set out to find a different way to sculpt.

The way she found was courtesy of Hilary Archer, a wood and stone carver in Hampshire. Hilary showed her the basics, declared her a natural, and let her use her carving studio every weekend for almost two years.

Spurred on by her success at wood carving, Tracey gave up work and signed up for a BA in “Restoration and Decoration” at University of Portsmouth. During which Tracey specialised in carving and paint effects, making an electric guitar in the shape of a dragon for her final piece and graduating with a first class degree.

A love of animals and nature inspires Tracey’s stone pieces. She especially loves the creatures of the British Isles – foxes, owls, hedgehogs, otters and anything she can bump into on a walk. Form, symmetry, sweeping lines and the feel of the piece are the most important aspects of the work for Tracey. Her pieces are almost always sleek, stylised and stroke-able.

Stone likes to be touched. The oil in your hands feeds the stone and gives it a lustre, so she actively encourages people to stroke her pieces and to explore them with eager hands (don’t pick her sculptures up though – they are heavy and will likely break your foot if you drop them).

Lizzie Cornelius - i can see the sea
Living on the beach at Hayling Island and travelling along the many beautiful coastlines in the UK & abroad has inspired Lizzie's art which is simple yet effective. Using acrylic paints and a black oil pen, Lizzie outlines the block colours which makes them come to life.
Lizzie often creates bespoke commission pieces depicting family memories, home towns, much loved pets or even Royal Navy ships. The process starts with a photographic image followed by a pencil sketch. This process of de-constructing the photograph and then reconstructing the sketch will often find the reality and sketch not to be geographically accurate, but pleasing to the eye with a natural flow.
From here she will mix her paint colours to give a pastel appearance and a slightly vintage feel, recreating bygone days at the British seaside.

All Mike's pots are hand thrown and go through a number of different processes. His glaze effects are the result of experimenting with colours & various techniques developed over the years, resulting in no two pieces ever being the same!
Any potter will tell you that ceramics at times, can be incredibly frustrating. There are so many different elements all of which can and quite often go wrong, but to Mike that’s half the fun! The challenge is getting every phase of the process just right and then the end result is a unique piece of work. The trick is to keep calm and enjoy the journey!
Mike's inspiration is his wife Gail whose wonderful work is also available to buy at Sage & Salt Studio. She is a fantastic painter and her work inspires Mike to compliment her vibrant style and colours in his ceramics.

Fundamental to this process are her landscape drawings in charcoal and pastel, which provide the inspiration and starting point for her glass work, and become pieces of art in their own right.
Favourite inspirational locations for Nancy are South Devon, West Cornwall and the South Downs.

Christopher Pike
Since graduating from UCA-Farnham in 2011, after studying Fine Art, Chris has mainly worked to commission across a range of creative disciplines, including sculpture, design and carpentry.
Chris is highly influenced by natural pattern and the similarities found in architectural forms. In particular; the lines and shapes formed by contours, man-made structures and our interpretation and manipulation of the world around us through maps and architecture. Chris finds inspiration in both natural and human patterns - the shapes left by flowing water or tides, the organic riven form produced by years of natural wind-blasting sand on rocks, growth rings in timber, the contours we use to describe land shapes on our maps and the geometric forms found in architecture.
Chris’ sculptures are designed to be the focal point within an internal space or garden vista, a tactile feature within a considered design, or function as mindful spaces, whilst also being environmentally conscious.
