An Introduction to the Subtlety and Drama of Charcoal 

with Freda Line

Thursday 18th April 10.30am - 12.30pm

Freda Line, a local artist well-known for her sea, sky and landscapes. She uses mixed media, often incorporating charcoal, as well as using charcoal for sketches and original work. Images of her work can be found on www.Freda-line-artist.co.uk 

 

In this two and a half hour workshop you will be taught to create a simple landscape.  

 

Equipment to bring with you:

- Please bring with you a soft or hard copy image you'd like to draw. This should either be in black and white or with strong colour contrasts. 

- Charcoal is messy so please bring latex or similar gloves and wet wipes· 

- A sketch pad and notebook would also be useful and if you have one

- A board to work on. 

 

All other materials will be supplied. 


This workshop is designed for adults. Teenagers aged 14-16yrs old must be accompanied by a paying adult. 

Brush Pen Lettering for Beginners

Experience some moments of calm and rest whilst learning modern brush pen lettering. Learning modern calligraphy lettering with a brush pen is a brilliant place to start your calligraphy lettering adventure. We explore basic brush pen strokes, build these into letter shapes and then create words and calligraphy quotes. There are plenty of templates for you to trace over as well as experimenting with colour techniques and adding details to your calligraphy lettering.

A small and a large brush pen is provided for you to take away, along with your work pack and templates, to practise more brush pen lettering in your own time. A hot drink and something yummy are also included in the ticket price. 

There is no requirement to have neat handwriting or previous art experience. With templates to trace over, this is a fun and relaxing workshop.

Silver Stacking Rings

If you've ever wanted to learn to weave, but never had the opportunity; just want to meet new like minded people, or have fun times with friends, then please join Amy's Beginners Hand Weaving workshop to learn the basics of weaving, by weaving a wall-hanging in her three hour workshop!

 

Using Amy's unique handmade framed looms you will set up your first warp and learn basic, contemporary tapestry weaving and classic hand-weaving techniques including fringing rya knots, plain tabby weave, soumak, and rya loops. You will then experiment with a variety of wools and natural materials to create different textures from the selection provided in your chosen colour palette, to weave your own personal wall hanging that you can take home. Amy will demonstrate how to tidy up your loose ends, insert your piece of chosen driftwood and remove your wall-hanging from your loom.

Beginners’ Seascape

Dreaming of the seaside, then it’s time for you to create your own seascape in water mixable oil paint.

 

During the workshop, Emma will demonstrate how she uses water mixable oil paint. We will start with an acrylic paint base layer then gradually build the layers using a variety of brushes. By the end of the workshop, you will have a beautiful landscape painting to take home.

 

Please note that your finished pieces will require drying time at home.

Fused Glass

Create your own flower meadow freestanding wave piece and trinket dish, using fused glass materials – no glass cutting required.

 

Choose from a selection of coloured glass granules, small chunks and curvy glass stringers, to assemble the wild flowers in your meadow.

After completion your glass creation will be taken away to be kiln fired, then you can collect your finished piece from Sage and Salt Studio when it’s ready.

Papercut Lightbox

Learn the stunning art of papercut lightbox making, with paper artist Dawn Thornhill. Get ready to unleash your creativity and create your own lightbox masterpiece!


A papercut lightbox is a magical way of creating a three- dimensional piece of art, using light to enhance the hand-cut layers which cast beautiful shadows and give a subtle depth to the piece.

In the 3.5 hour workshop, you will be taught the basics of paper cutting, including how to use a scalpel safely and the principles behind making a lightbox. A wide-range of templates are available to chose from to create and build your own multi-layer A5 lightbox. All the equipment you need is included and no previous experience of drawing or papercutting is needed.

Over 18's only due to the use of scalpels.
