Creative Studio Technician

Part-time | Approx. 15 hours per week initially | £14.50 per hour | Petersfield

Sage and Salt Studio is growing, and we're looking for a Creative Studio Technician to join our small team in Petersfield.

Our workshop programme and Craft Pantry continue to grow, and this is a brand-new role created to help keep the creative side of Sage and Salt Studio running smoothly behind the scenes.

We're looking for someone who is creative, practical, organised and hands-on. Someone who enjoys making things, but gets just as much satisfaction from preparing a beautifully organised workspace, making sure everything is where it should be and knowing that a workshop is completely ready to go.

About the role

You'll work closely with Sarah-Jane, the owner of Sage and Salt Studio, helping with the practical preparation and day-to-day running of our workshops, regular creative groups and self-guided Craft Pantry.

It's a varied role. One day you might be preparing materials and setting up for an art workshop, another could involve making a sample for a new Craft Pantry activity, organising equipment, checking stock levels or getting everything ready for one of our regular groups.

You'll have plenty of independence, so we're looking for someone who can take ownership of their responsibilities and spot what needs doing without always needing to be asked.

What you'll be doing

The role will include:

Preparing materials and equipment for workshops and regular creative groups
Setting up the studio before sessions and clearing, cleaning and resetting afterwards
Keeping our Craft Pantry organised, stocked and ready for customers
Preparing craft materials, kits and activity trays
Monitoring materials and consumables and identifying what needs to be reordered
Keeping the studio, equipment and creative stock areas organised
Cleaning and maintaining tools and equipment
Creating samples and testing new Craft Pantry activities and workshop ideas
Photographing finished samples and workshop setups where required
Helping to create and maintain clear workshop setup guides, stock lists and systems
Supporting workshop administration and listings where required
Helping with the general smooth running of our busy creative programme

As this is a small independent business, there will naturally be other practical jobs that crop up from time to time too!

Who we're looking for

You don't need a particular art qualification or previous experience in exactly this kind of role. We're much more interested in finding someone who is:

Creative and enjoys arts, crafts and making
Practical and happy to get stuck in
Naturally organised
Reliable and able to work independently
Excellent at noticing the little details
Able to follow instructions accurately while also using their own initiative
Comfortable juggling different tasks and priorities
Happy with both the creative and less glamorous parts of running a studio
Confident with basic IT and digital systems, or willing to learn
Friendly, positive and comfortable working as part of a small team

Experience in an art studio, workshop environment, education, events, creative business or similar would be useful, but isn't essential.

Hours

This role will initially be for approximately 15 hours per week, usually spread across three - four days.

The working pattern is built around our workshop and creative programme, so this isn't a role where all 15 hours can be condensed into one or two days.

Some hours will need to be worked around our regular weekday groups, and regular Saturday afternoon availability will be required.

There is some flexibility in the exact working pattern, and we're happy to discuss this with the right person.

As Sage and Salt Studio continues to grow, there may be scope for the hours to increase in the future.

Opportunity to run workshops

For the right person, there may also be opportunities to develop and lead workshops of your own at Sage and Salt Studio.

Teaching workshops isn't an essential part of the Creative Studio Technician role, so you don't need previous teaching experience to apply.

Where workshop delivery is agreed, those hours would be paid separately at an enhanced rate in recognition of the additional responsibility involved.

Pay

£14.50 per hour

This is a part-time employed position based at Sage and Salt Studio, 4 Swan Street, Petersfield.
